After dark, the Tour Eiffel sparkles for a few minutes, every hour on the hour.

Where we stay

When visiting Paris we always try to stay at the Hôtel du Champ de Mars.

Near the Tour Eiffel, in the Seventh Arrondisement, the hotel offers an excellent combination of convenience and economy. It’s our favorite. The accomodations are comfortable and the staff is friendly and helpful.

It’s around the corner from the busy rue Cler market neighborhood which has places to eat and drink, bakeries, grocery stores and specialty shops featuring the tastes of France and many of the comforts of home. Transportation options of the Metro at École Militaire and the bus line are close at hand.

We first learned about the neighborhood from a friend who recommended travel personality Rick Steves’ book “2 to 22 Days in France” as a reference. Steves details several hotels in the area and we’ve stayed at three of them. We prefer the Hôtel du Champ de Mars.

The hotel encourages you to plan ahead and make arrangements early when contemplating a trip. The hotel’s website provides room descriptions and current rate information.

Contact the hotel via e-mail reservation [at] hotelduchampdemars.com to find out if your desired dates are available. Once dates are assured, it’s been customary to followup with a fax containing a credit card number to secure reservations. Inquire whether e-mail communication with them will suffice to assure your reservation.
